Last night, I was seriously contemplating on whether I will attend the funeral of my friend's mom. Laziness and guilt were pulling me in opposite directions. Guilt won or maybe it was Divine Intervention and I was awake at 4:30am. I quickly took my breakfast, showered, and dressed up. I was hitching a ride with a college chum. The meeting place was Gateway in Cubao at 7:30am. The wake was at the Loyola Marikina. Interment will also be held there.
As soon as I was dressed up, I hurriedly left. I was halfway through our street when I looked at my watch it was 6:30am and I'll be commuting. I wouldn't make it in time with the many rides I will take. So I decided to go back and get my car which I would be leaving at Alabang Town Center where I will meet my friends later for lunch. I parked my car at Mcdonald's and avoided being seen by the guard as I made my way to the road to get a jeepney to go to Alabang. I took a bus a Alabang and checked my mobile phone for any message from my friend. Nothing yet.
I got off at Mantrade and took the MRT to make it to Cubao faster. When I got inside the train, it was SRO. I held on to the rail when a young lady offered her seat to me. I tried to decline the offer saying thanks but she was insistent. I was wondering why..... Then, it dawned on me that I was wearing an empire cut shirt and was mistaken as preggy hehehe. I didn't want to explain so early in the morning so I just let it be. I offered to carry her backpack but she declined.
Sitting comfortably, I tried to text my friend but had trouble with my phone. Karma? For some reason, this phone does this to me everytime I need to communicate with someone badly particularly when I have to meet somebody. It's becoming a habit, a bad one......... The battery seemed to overheat. I had to turn it off all the time by removing the battery. I could send one text message and then it would hang. I was able to call my friend once but the line was cut. I was praying that my text messages could reach her because they ended up in my outbox. I was almost midway through my travel when I got a text message from her telling me she was on her way. Then, another after that telling me not to call her because her battery was low. I texted that my phone was giving me problems as well. We agreed that we'd meet at Mcdo Gateway. I texted my other friend who I'll also meet later to just text me the venue of our lunch and telling her that I might be late because I'd be coming from Marikina. When I reached Cubao, I was walking and running in going to our meeting place because my friend was already there. I got into her car and we drove off.
The Mass was halfway when we arrived at the funeral. I was surprised to see a baby pink casket...... my first time to see such cute casket. Pardon my irreverence, I couldn't help it. My friend, the daughter of the deceased, as well as their family actually have certain queers. They are weird in a cute and funny way. I had seen their idiosyncracy as we used to hang out in their house to prepare our thesis. This friend tried to hold her baby from coming out so that the baby's birthdate would not fall on President Ferdinand Marcos's birthday or the date of the imposition of Martial Law. I can't remember exactly which one. This friend, btw, was one of the two programmers who led their group in staging a walk-out during the Comelec count of the elections results of then President Ferdinand Marcos and President Corazon Aquino which triggered the first People's Power in February 1986. This was to be the first People Power I would take part in.
After the mass, my friend's mom was finally laid to rest. But that's not the end. My friend's sister thanked the relatives and friends who came to pay their last respect to their mom. Then, she said we are also distributing giveaway, a soap in a pink box. OMG, I was laughing inside. I really shouldn't be surprised.
Dra., may you be granted eternal peace by our Maker. You lived a full and colorful life. Your children made sure you depart with the same grace you had in life. They also made sure you will leave in style.
My friend and I left shortly after the rites. She dropped me off at Gateway. I took the MRT going to Makati. Then again, a woman asked her young daughter to vacate the seat for me. Again, I tried to say thanks......... but the girl already vacated the seat..... so I took it. I was laughing inside but had to keep a respectable facade. I got off at Ayala and took a bus going to Alabang. After a short jeepney ride, I arrived at Gilligan's, our lunch venue, about 12:00 noon.
Two of my friends were already there. I proceeded to the ladies room to freshen up. I joined my two friends and started catching up as we were waiting for our food. I received a text message from hubby telling me we should leave at 1:30 for the show. I told my friends I have to leave at 1:15pm. Our other friend arrived to complete our quartet. The last friend always provided the comic relief as she blabs about her crazy antics and weird choices. We actually complement each other. We had not even reached decent girls' talk level when I baded them goodbye.
I took the route inside the mall going to Mcdo to get my car. I got home just as hubby and my son were putting on their shoes. I asked for a few minutes to freshen up. We left shortly. Hubby drove us to the main entrance of Casino Filipino and then met the person who gave him a free tickets for the show. Tickets are quite pricey ranging from P1,200 to P3,000. Thank God we got ours free courtesy of hubby's friend.
The show was delayed for about an hour due to some technical problems. It started without us knowing it as a young boy was shown bothering the bouncer of the group. We know he's the bouncer because the word bouncer is emblazoned on his shirt. Then two characters who look like they came out of Alice and Wonderland came out from behind looking for a bearded man asking the audience. The male character would ask the naughty boy to take their pictures. Then the boy would run with the camera and disappear in the stage chased by the two characters and the bouncer. Soon the two characters came out and Master Showman ( I am suddenly reminded of Kuya Germs) opened the show with a spectacular display of light and sound with performers singing and dancing on stage, at the aisle and on harnesses (If you viewed the lighting of torch at the opening yesterday of the Olympics Games, it is very similar). Soon after, we would watch superb performances from acrobats, gymnasts, trapeze artists, body contortionists, ballet dancers, and other dancers accompanied by musical performances one after another. My favorite was the body contortionists. These four girls could bend their bodies from the waist backwards more than 180 degrees. Same thing can be done with their legs and other body parts like they have no bones. The other performers were equally entertaining. If you have money to spare or a generous friend, you should watch this show, a musical extravaganza cum circus. I am wondering why this show is not given enough promotion .
Too bad my middle daughter missed this show as she needs to study for her exams next week. She opted to stay because she will not be able to study tomorrow because we'll be watching another show, Cinderella in the evening.
I had a fully-packed day today as I went from eternity and beyond capping it with reality and fantasy colliding (to borrow from Mr. Showman).
PS: Papahinga na ako. Talagang pagod na pagod ako ngayong araw. Sobrang puno. Di ko na kaya......
Goodnight,,,,,,,,, Sweet dreams zzzzzzzzzzz
