Brainchild’s break……
The dental appointment is another must before school starts. Again, thanks to our HMO, our teeth and dental health have been taken care of. In my time, we dread going to the dentist because it would usually be because of a severe problem already. I remember my then kid brother throwing a fit cursing everyone in the dentist clinic in one of those visits to the dentist to extricate a tooth. He had to be subdued by a number of able-bodied men. Dental heath care of the preventive rather than curative nature, was unheard of. Nowadays, kids are so used to visiting the dentists like it was part of their routine. Our appointment with the dentist who has become a friend is set after lunch……… which is good. It will give us time to have our last meal before being subjected to the electric drill.
With enough time to spare, I was able to shear my pregnant terrier’s tummy and derriere. She’s due to give birth anytime now and it is advised that excess hair be trimmed so as not to disrupt with whelping and nursing of the pups. After this, I cleaned my bathroom and took a bath. We had lunch of sinigang na baka which is actually a complete dish by itself, a traditional weekend fare of Filipino families. It is also ED’s and hubby’s favorite. On a rainy day, a hot steaming bowl of sinigang is the comfort food of choice to get the chills out.
ED, our late riser, prepared for the dentist appointment. Everyone else was ready. We lingered a while because hubby was also waiting for a bird hobbyist who would buy some birds from him. After a while, he said we should go as he made appointment with the bird hobbyist for a later schedule. We passed by a pet supply shop to get food for the dogs. Then, we went our way to the dentist using another route. When we reached the highway, we were thankful using another route as the highway was bumper-to-bumper.
The dentist was not in the clinic when we arrived but her assistants were there. MS was the first to be checked. Soon, our dentist-friend arrived. She checked on MS and called hubby and I to look at what needed to be done. A tooth was growing and a temporary tooth was blocking its normal growth. It had to be extricated. MS went with it without a whimper. I would have reacted differently had I have been the one on the dental chair. Next it was ED’s turn. She had to be regularly checked because of her gum problem. She had braces on her upper teeth but the lower teeth cannot be put in braces because of the gum problem. The dentist said the gum has to fully recover before braces can be fitted on her teeth. Then, it was MD’s turn. After the girl, our dentist-friend reported that the gums of ED are looking well but still need more time for full recovery.
Then it was my turn. Our dentist-friend worked on me and then passed the filling job to her assistant. Last was hubby was just had prophylaxis. He would later complain about the disadvantage of being the last one because the dentist took only something like ten minutes to work on him making him feel ‘cheated’. I suggested that he asked that the process be repeated over again and again until his teeth thin out.
After our appointment, the kids are complaining that they are hungry….. However, we still cannot eat until after some time. We need to go to the mall though to buy some more school stuff. MS need to buy uniform. Hubby dropped us off and met up with the bird hobbyist. He said that he will follow us after his transaction. Shopping we went…… Hubby soon came and paid for the purchases. Then, we went home. We had a hearty dinner of steamed shrimps, green veggies, and chicharon. We lingered a while till food is digested before going upstairs to retire……
